About the Artist

Naje Fields also known as “Nonie Dope” is a well-known Washingtonian based in the Historic Anacostia community. She began her artist journey at Kramer Middle school with Digital art and clothing design. She has presented in many art and fashion shows across the city at a young age. While she majored in computer science at Morgan State University she still continued art as a career by providing free-lance graphic design and manufacturing services to various clothing brands in the city. After graduating she pursued a Systems Engineering career at The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) while many of the projects she worked on required her graphic design expertise; she created a footwear brand and clothing manufacturing company called Fifth of March DC in 2017. She has recently shifted her focus to rug tufting and has been perfecting her craft for a little over 2 years. Her art is inspired by her love of music and community. She also has used her art as a tool to battle and cope with anxiety and grief.
